Today you are three months old; one quarter of your first year has already gone by and I can't believe it.
I have heard so many people say that after you have a baby you cannot remember what life was like before they were in your life and up until this point I did not have this same feeling but now I truly cannot remember what it was like before you were here; our lives must have been fairly boring. According to Dr. Harvey Karp you are officially out of the 4th trimester and ready for life. In his book, Happiest Baby on the Block, he talks about how different a newborn is to a three month old. When I read that book when you were just a few weeks old I couldn’t imagine that one day, sooner than later, you would be the big three month old he talked about but here we are. I can’t believe how much you have changed this month. You have learned to do so many new things.
This month we celebrated our first family Christmas.
On Christmas Eve your Dad and I had our traditional Christmas Eve dinner and then we went to look at Christmas lights. You loved it! You looked out the window for a long time before falling asleep.
To bed you wore your Babies 1st Christmas bodysuit that Grandma P bought for you.
On Christmas morning we had a wonderful breakfast of monkey bread and you enjoyed a nice big bottle. After breakfast we opened presents. This year Santa brought you a Sophie the Giraffe, a soothe and glow seahorse, a few toys and outfits.
You love to bite on Sophie’s ears and listening to your seahorse before you go to bed.
Around 11 o’clock Pop, Grandma H, and Uncle Matt came to celebrate the day with us. We had a wonderful dessert table set up and munched while Grandma and I made us all dinner of ham, twice baked potatoes, mashed sweet potatoes, green beans, brussel sprouts and cresset rolls. You were a very lucky boy this Christmas and received a ton of generous gifts from both of your grandparents, your Great Aunt Debbie, Uncle Matt, Jeff and Heather, and Great Grandmas. We celebrated New Years Eve with a visit from your Aunt Kerri, Uncle John, and cousin Evan.
This month you learned to make new sounds with your voice. You have been “cooing” for quite a while but now you can make all the vowel sounds and a gurgley cooing that is so cute. You love to talk! You and I can have a conversation for a good 15 minutes. You also learned to let out real laughs, it is adorable. Your favorite thing to do this month was smile. You are the most smiley baby I have ever met. You have a few different smiles that you do. You open mouth really excited smile, your “I’m happy to see you smile”, and what your Dad calls your “shit faced grin”. All of them melt me like ice cream of a hot day.
Your other new favorite thing to do is sit up like a big boy. Lying down no longer does it, you love to sit up and look around (or at the TV). You love love love looking at the TV. You will sit of your Dad’s lap and just stare at it.
You are getting so much stronger when you lay on your belly. At the beginning of the month you hated tummy time and would just cry and rub your head into the floor. Now you push yourself up like a big boy but get very frustrated when you can’t move. You are trying to pull yourself forward so badly.
This month you also learned to use your hands for many things. First and foremost being putting them in your mouth, you happily chomp along on them all day.
You also learned to reach out and grab toys within the last week or so. You now reach up on your play mat for Mallory the Monkey and slam your hands at the toys on your exersaucer.
The day you turned two months old you slept through the night from 10pm to 6am and have been fairly consistent with that schedule all month. You usually take a short 45 minute nap in the morning and then a good 2-3 hour nap in the afternoon. You are an eating machine. You typically wake up and have an 8 ounce bottle and then 4-6 ounces every 3-4 hours during the day.
You are wearing size 2 diapers and size 3 month clothes but have outgrown a few zip up sleepers, we also have a few 6 month bodysuits that you have worn. This month you also wore your first pair of jeans!
You did not have a doctor’s appointment this month (phew….no shots!) but I weighted you this morning and you are a solid 13 pounds even.
It has been such a fun month with you, I cannot wait to see what next month has in store!
Love you always,
Mama
